The international community of experts in the field of safe and efficient nuclear energy gathered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the occasion of the 4th NUGENIA Forum from 13-15 April 2015.
This three-day event aimed at fostering technical discussions and opening dialogue between stakeholders on research and development challenges for Generation II and III nuclear reactors and building new collaborative projects around innovative ideas.
In over three years, NUGENIA has built a portfolio of about 30 projects, funded by public and private sources.
Research and development is essential to continuously demonstrate the safety, reliability and improve the competitiveness of nuclear power plants. Joining forces and cooperation between all of the various stakeholders in the sector is also necessary for the long-term sustainability and safety of nuclear energy in Europe and beyond.
The key challenges that the NUGENIA association is addressing include:
- Fostering collaboration between industry, SMEs, RTOs, academia and technical safety organisations
- Building knowledge and expertise
- Generating results with added value to end users
- Ensuring long-term sustainable research and development dedicated to nuclear safety
The event was organised in collaboration with the Department of Reactor Engineering Institute “Jozef Stefan” (Slovenia), one of the members of the NUGENIA Association.
More than 150 experts from 50 organisations including participants from EU and overseas participated in the active exchange and discussions.
NUGENIA is an international non-profit association founded under Belgian law in November 2011 and launched in March 2012. Its mission is to be an integrated framework for safe, reliable and competitive Gen II & III fission technologies.
