ABOUT IPRESCA - Integration of Pool scrubbing Research to Enhance Source-term Calculations
IPRESCA will operate under NUGENIA Technical Area 2 (Severe Accident) – Sub Technical Area 2.4 (Source-term). Participation in IPRESCA is not restricted to NUGENIA members but open to all.
The topic of pool scrubbing is of major relevance both in BWRs and PWRs as it plays a vital role in mitigating the source-term to the environment by retention of fission products passing through water pools. Experimental investigations related to pool scrubbing are also expected to provide some additional database for assessment of filtered containment venting systems (FCVS) performance under accident conditions as well as for validation and further development of pool scrubbing models.
The main objective of IPRESCA is to promote a better integration of international research activities related to pool scrubbing by providing support in experimental research to broaden the current knowledge and database, and by supporting analytical research to facilitate systematic validation and development of the existing safety analysis tools for plant application and source-term analysis. Furthermore, involvement of national and international experts on a common platform will facilitate to identify remaining issues of safety significance in pool scrubbing related fields. The available experimental and analytical information on pool scrubbing area from other ongoing projects, such as EC-PASSAM, EC-CESAM, and OECD/NEA THAI-3 will be considered in the proposed activities, as and where appropriate.
